In-Text Citation: Linking the information in your paper to your Works Cited

General Guidelines
  • Use the first word(s) from the Works Cited page to link the information in the essay to the source in your Works Cited page.
  • You can link in your words that introduce the quote/paraphrase or you can use parentheses for each piece of information.
  • Cite a source in each sentence that is from research, not just once in a paragraph
  • Periods go after the parentheses
  • If the title is in quotation marks or italics in your Works Cited, it is in quotation marks or italics in your essay.
  • Use an ellipsis … in a quote if you are leaving out words. Use [brackets] if you need to change a word (for tense or pronoun reference).
  • DO NOT BEGIN SENTENCES WITH QUOTATION MARKS. Give all quotes and paraphrases some type of introduction
